Discussing What Schools missed – Life, College, & Career

About the show

“There are known knowns, things we know that we know; and there are known unknowns, things that we know we don’t know.  But, there are also unknown unknowns, things we do not know we don’t know.”

– Donald Rumsfeld, Former US Sec. of State

The immortal words of our late Secretary of State might as well have been summarizing the premise behind the Reschool’d Podcast. Throughout your life, you’ve learned a lot. You’ve read things. You’ve heard things.  You’ve experienced things.  But, contrary to popular belief, you don’t know everything.

Unfortunately, those who were tasked with providing you the best information to guide you in life also don’t know everything. And we dang sure don’t know everything. BUT – we do know a little bit – particularly about higher education and careers.

And guess what!!! We’re here to talk about what we know.  More specifically, we talk about everything from deciding whether you should go to college to what’s wrong with the college system today to what it takes to best set yourself up for career success through education and EVERYTHING in between.

Higher education and careers are too often unfortunate bed fellows.  But, it’s a pill you have to swallow. So, if you want to play your best hand in the game of professional life, you need to know the rules, the context, and the players.

Stick with us! We tell you what you need to know.

Meet The Hosts

AJ Kooti

Hey everyone!  I’m AJ Kooti (Koo – tee).  I teach accounting in college.  Yeah, I know, it sounds riveting. I do have a unique ability to make the oh-so-boring sound fun. But, boring or not – I love teaching. It lights my fire (great song- by the way) to help people succeed in whatever they want out of life.

I might just understand where you’re coming from. I had learning disabilities, but I was too hardheaded to ask for help. I compensated for my deficiencies … as best I could.

Fortunately, I learned to use strategy to be … as my trainer says (yes, I have a trainer; please don’t judge his ability based on my appearance), “strategically lazy”. So, I’m all about working smarter, NOT harder.

Just prior to COVID, I dreamed up the idea for this podcast, but the quarentine put a damper on getting it going.  Enter my co-host, Jason; and, we decided to get this plane off the ground.

I’m a college professor – mostly law, negotiations, management, and career development. While I’m somewhere on the average intelligence spectrum, I’ve been pretty good at fooling people into believing I’m smart. One way that I pull the wool is that I have three graduate degrees. That, at least, allows me to hang around with bright folks.

One side effect of teaching in college and attending a lot of colleges, I have really started to understand the whole higher education game. I’m gonna go ahead and brag by saying – I know a lot about college, grad school, and career paths. That’s why I’m on this podcast talking at/to/with you.

Aside from spending my time as an intellectual imposter, I’m a trier. I’ve started (mostly unsuccessfully) several businesses. But, I haven’t given up yet. If you get a chance, check out TheBusinessProfessor.com and JandCoats.com.
